For the first time Wednesday qualifying was held in Ottawa for the the golf competition portion of the Ontario Summer Games.
Intended for Ontario athletes under the age of 17 who are members of the Golf Association of Ontario, twenty-one players in the age category played the Canadian Golf & Country Club West course in hopes of earning a spot in the provincial competition later this summer at Cedar Brae Golf & Country Club in Scarborough.
There was just one qualifying spot for the boys up for grabs and fifteen year-old Dallas Clancy of Ottawa earned that with his round of 79.
Two players earned alternate spots, Matthew Action and Eric Marshall, both of Ottawa.
On the girls side of the draw there were two qualifying spots available and they were earned by Sasha Linauskas who traveled from Toronto for the qualifier. She will be at an advantage at the Summer Games as she is a member at Cedar Brae. Earning the second spot was fifteen year-old Estee Deschamps of Ste-Isidore who matched Linauskas with a score of 87.
Alternates for the girls are Lilian Klekner-Alt and Diana McDonald.
The golf portion of the Ontario Summer Games will be played on August 15th-17th.
